In my early 40s, my health collapsed. Out of nowhere, I couldn’t breathe.
My lungs felt like they were on fire. My airways were closing.
Diagnosis: severe adult-onset asthma.
My lung function? Just 19%.
I was stuck on heavy steroids, gaining weight, and getting worse—even while doing everything my doctors told me to.
Then my lung specialist looked me in the eye and said:
“There’s not much else we can do.”
That was my wake-up call.
If I wanted to heal, it was up to me.
I refused to see myself as a “sick person” anymore.
After praying for wisdom, I remembered vocal exercises I’d learned years earlier that strengthened lung capacity.
I built a plan. I started small.
I committed to daily physical activity and vocal exercises to build my lungs back to health—no matter how imperfect.
At first?
Just 7 minutes of movement triggered asthma. As did more than a few minutes of singing. I just couldn't do much. I didn't have the lung capacity.
But I didn’t give up. I kept at it, increasing the time spent in physical activity and vocal exercises as my lung capacity increased. I began cleaning house on unhealthy habits holding me back:
🚫 No more late nights or junk food
🚫 No more soda or self-neglect
🚫 No more putting myself last
I made self-care non-negotiable—even while raising four busy kids.
Because I knew: if I didn’t show up for me, healing couldn’t happen.

✔️ Put my autoimmune disease into remission—where it’s stayed for years 💪
