In my early 40s, my health fell apart. One day, out of nowhere, I couldn’t breathe. My lungs felt like they were on fire, my airways closing in. Diagnosed with severe adult-onset asthma, my lung function plummeted to 19%. I was on heavy steroids, gaining weight, and getting sicker despite following all my doctor’s instructions.
Then came the moment I’ll never forget. My lung specialist looked at me and said, “There’s not much else we can do.” That was my wake-up call. If I was going to get better, it was up to me.
I refused to see myself as a “sick person” anymore. After praying for wisdom, I recalled vocal exercises from years earlier that improved lung capacity. I created a plan and started small—exercising my lungs, moving my body, and following the pillars of health.
Progress was slow but steady. At first, 7 minutes of exercise triggered an asthma attack, but I didn’t give up. I cleaned house on unhealthy habits:
No more late nights or junk food.
No more soda or negative self-talk.
No more putting everyone else ahead of me.
I made self-care my top priority—despite raising four busy kids and managing a household. I knew if I didn’t take care of myself, I couldn’t expect my body to heal.
Within a year, my lung function was back to 100%. I lost the weight, regained my energy, and even started singing again. I felt—and looked—better than I had in years.
And I didn’t stop there. Using the same methods, I sent an autoimmune disease into remission, where it’s stayed for years.
